History of the building
The history of ‘Huis van Schagen’ dates back to the mid-15th century. From 1584 to 1601, the house was occupied by Johan van Beyeren van Schagen, from whom it takes its name. In the late 19th century, the house was purchased by St Anthony’s Parish and converted into a girls’ school (Mariaschool) and a convent. The building was given a new façade in the Neo-Renaissance style.
