Long-term illness requires a lot of perseverance and energy from a child. The treatments, the (long) periods of hospitalisation, the uncertainty, seeing your friends having a normal life. In the family, too, such a situation often results in complete disruption. Each family member makes an extra effort, often having to sacrifice or limit other activities to do so. And then there is the actual worry of will my child, brother or sister get better again?
Opkikker Foundation brings bright spots to the seriously ill
In such circumstances, small and bigger bright spots are even more important than usual, are experienced very intensely and contribute significantly to the mental state of child and family. Contributing to the mental energy of a longterm sick child by organising a day full of relaxation and happiness together with the entire family (including the anticipation, afterglow and memories for years to come). Opkikker works exclusively on indication and at the request of the hospitals cooperating with the foundation throughout the Netherlands. Opkikker makes this possible for child, family and hospital by dedicating itself entirely and selflessly to the development and organisation of the Opkikker days and by enthusing society for this cause in order to raise sufficient funds for Opkikker days.
